A CULTURAL PLATFORM BY GYRI S. SUSRUD

Where Culture Meets..

Cultural heritage isn't nostalgia — it's the raw material for what comes next.

Where Culture Meets is a platform for cultural entrepreneurs, architects of memory, and storytellers who build with heritage instead of around it. Through consultancy, design, podcasts, writing, and mentorship, it connects people who carry the weight of roots with the ambition to create something genuinely new.

The Mission

What this platform does

What gives meaning is not what we build alone — it is what we build together, across time, across cultures, across the distance between who we are and who we are becoming. This platform is that bridge.

Gathers people
Intimate events and salons where cultural entrepreneurs, architects, and historians actually meet

Building bridges & Open doors
Mentorship and consultancy that turn heritage into a working advantage, not a memory

Lifts voices
Writing and podcasts that give language to knowledge passed down through generations.

WHERE CULTURE MEETS HISTORY

Heritage as Foundation, Not Decoration

For architects, interior designers, hotels, and major projects that want more than a mood board — they want the actual story of the place, used as the foundation for what's built next.

Cultural heritage is not decoration. It's raw material: the people who lived there, the events that shaped it, the objects and traditions worth carrying forward — woven into one narrative that anchors the project, then carries through into how it's told to the world.

  • History mapping — uncovering the site's and family's history, key people, and objects worth telling

  • Concept development — weaving that history together with what you're building today, into one coherent narrative

  • Guidance on how the story translates into colour, material, and atmosphere — conceptual direction, not technical drawings

  • Collaboration with your interior designer or architect to bring the concept to technical life

  • Storytelling for marketing and communication once the project is complete

Where Culture Meets Talks

Curated talks and network events that bring cultural entrepreneurs, architects, designers, and historians into the same room. Because the most important connections still happen in person.

  • Keynotes and lectures — including Oslo Design Fair

  • Curated network gatherings and cultural salons

  • Workshops on heritage as a creative resource

  • Intimate evenings for cultural entrepreneurs

Mentorship

WHERE CULTURE MEETS ENTREPRENEURSHIP

For women cultural entrepreneurs — those building something the world doesn't quite have a category for yet. Guidance from someone who has lived the uncertainty, the joy, and the cost.

  • One-to-one mentoring sessions

  • Strategy for cultural business models

  • Navigating the tension between commerce and calling

WHERE CULTURE MEETS DESIGN

Gyri Design: Lived-in Norwegian Heritage

Sustainable fabrics, wallpapers, and objects rooted in the textile traditions of Norway — designed for contemporary interiors. Not pastiche. Not revival. Something that could only exist now, because of everything that came before.

Pattern as memory. Colour as landscape. Craft as intelligence passed from hand to hand across generations.

PODCAST 01

Rooted in Something Real

CONVERSATIONS WITH WOMEN WHO CREATE FROM THE INSIDE OUT

There is a kind of knowledge that cannot be learned from a book — it lives in the hands, in the memory of a place, in the patterns passed from one generation to the next. This podcast series is a celebration of the women who have built their lives and their work from exactly that kind of knowing. Intimate, honest, and deeply inspiring conversations about culture, creativity, and what it truly means to create something that belongs to you.

PODCAST 02

Whose Story Is It?

A DETECTIVE STORY ABOUT CULTURE, OWNERSHIP, AND BELONGING

When a pattern travels — across borders, across centuries, across the hands of people who never met — who does it belong to? This is a detective story with no obvious villain and no easy answers. It begins in a Norwegian mountain village in the 1800s and winds its way through history, emigration, and the fashion industry, asking the questions we rarely dare to ask out loud: who owns a tradition? And what happens when the world falls in love with something that was never theirs to take?
